The music of Paramedic is a hybrid of classic hip hop, soul, jazz and
funk with lyricism firmly rooted in social activism and positive vibes. It
looks to the future while being firmly grounded in the past.
The vintage vibe is achieved through the use of classic keyboards such
as the Fender Rhodes, Hohner Clavinet, the Wurlitzer and, of course,
the Hammond B3 Organ.
The disco and dance sensibilities injected into
the mix caused Paramedic to be compared to artists such as St. Germain
and Jamiroquai. The music is also punctuated by slap bass rhythms and
thick synth basses familiar to any fan of great funk music.
Tracks such
as "Ol
Skoolin" and "Just Keep Goin" exemplify this dedication to the great
funk sound. Paramedic is also a study in eclecticism. Listen carefully
and you'll also find elements of drum and bass, dub, and the warped
sounds of futuristic synths mixed together with the heavy attack
of Rage Against the Machine style guitar and bass riffs on tracks
such as "Return
of the Mic Martyr" and "Church Inc."
To truly understand the origins and many influences that molded the Paramedic
sound, the following listening list has been included:
